The number of crashes on Windows has had me waiting for a new relase.
- Live chord detection simply never works, always crashes.
- The midi engine frequently doesn't work and the default piano sound or any other sound isn't audible until i mess with the audio settings. Not changing any settings, just forcing resets.
- Crashes during figure editing.
- midi analysis function suffers from infinite loops. Highly anti-climactic when you let it loose on a folder and build up high expectations.
- Downloading device and patch descriptions from the online repo fails every single time
Is Synfire being worked on? Is the company leaning more towards supporting the apple fanboys first?
It has so much potential but the productivity loss due to crashes is insane considering the purpose of the software is for rapid music prototyping and development.
I'm hanging on, but I want to know where to invest. Orb and Rapid Composer are getting most of my attention these days.

Sure is Synfire being worked on. Did you submit crash reports? (Help >> Online Updates >> Submit Crashes). If so, these will be looked at and fixed.
Most issues on Windows that are not occurring on macOS are related to how hardware drivers on Windows are often unable to deal with multiple client apps using them at the same time (You will experience similar issues if you ran multiple DAWs at the same time). We can provide workarounds for some, but not all hardware, so please contact support for details.
Live chord detection, figure editing, and device downloads should work, though. We will look into recent crash reports if there's a regression with the last update.
MIDI analysis, or figure recognition, especially when run on a folder of files, can be a very long running batch task. The pattern recognition and AI under the hood can take hours at times, as with increasing length of the files, there are billions of permutations to evaluate and categorize. There is certainly no infinite loop involved.
Importing a whole song in one chunk is not the best way to harvest its phrases. Check this article for recommendations how to accomplish this task more efficiently:

All crash logs sent.
The driver situation doesn't occur with Reaper. Might be the shared engine approach you guys are using and those always fun thread/resource ownership issues.
I'm just glad you guys are working on it. It was all getting a bit madenning and discouraging.
Synfire's container approach is wonderful. The palette is amazing. Once figures are in, and harmony is applied, Synfire really shines. The journey often ends in a rage quit situation however.
If Cognitone takes its cues from Rapid Composer and even Orb, as a simpler model, then generators might be a hot topic around the office.
Once the stability and resource sharing issues can be put behind us, generators could help synfire become an even faster prototyping tool. I know we already have chord generation. Good start.
The editing capabilities are already quite powerful.

Thanks for the crash reports. For a much better experience, please update to the current 1.9.1 build #4. You seem to be running an outdated version. Synfire has much improved since December 2018.
Let us know if you still find issues with the current release.

Andre, I thought Synfire would tell me when there are updates. I know the update system is used to send crash reports, but I haven't been notified of a new version.
I'll poke around when I get the chance tonight. Can't wait to try it out.
I see no need for multiple programs for prototyping since Synfire does such a great job with containers and song structure. Just a few blockers from my perspective, then Synfire rules the roost.
Can't wait!!
Thank you.

The update definitely isn't available through the Synfire update thing. Of course, the zip file was waiting for me on the Cognitone website.
I must have missed the update notification or something.
Thank you!
Will give it a test to see if what I saw has been addressed.
Terribly sorry, I didn't know there was an update. Again I thought Synfire would have given me a notice.

Awesome!!!
1. Live chord detection probably doesn't work like I expected it to, but it isn't crashing!
I expected the chords to be recorded as the harmonic progression, which isn't happening, so I'm still confused, but that's my problem. I'll refer to the manual for this.
2. Downloading device description works like a charm!
3. Midi engine worked after simply hitting record and stop. The piano came to life after that. Reproducible, so hey if it's consistent, I'm happy.
4. As far as crashes during figure editing, well, that'll take some time to discover, but so far so good.
5. Regarding the midi analysis function and inifite looping, I'll just follow your advice. Initially, as with many of your users I'm sure, the midi analysis thing seemed like a gold mine, but really it's just icing. Maintaining my own libraries and maybe performing a few imports just to get some drum beats and basic instrument figures in there makes more sense.
WOOOO!!!
