Just opened and have looked through the manual. Trying to import a midi track to see how HN2 can harmonize.
Stuck right away:
Opened a new song
Selected Harmonizer tab
Selected an instrument ( as per page 42) Piano
Could not find "recognition preset..." to set it to "Input for Harmonization" (page 42)
and "Input" on the "Phrase" tab is grayed
At this point really need specific instructions to try this out.
thanks

Hi Fred,
Have you seen this video? (https://users.cognitone.com/content/hn2-harmonizer)
Although it's in Synfire, it says HN2 works almost exactly the same way.
Good luck!

Yup, seen that. Still confused and struggling.

Sorry, I only have Synfire so not sure if it's quite the same.
In Synfire, you would select the instrument, then import the MIDI track using Phrase >> Import and set the preset to 'Input for Harmonization'.
Other than that, you could try importing the MIDI file as static (i.e. no interpretation) and then harmonize.
If that doesn't help I'm afraid you'll have to wait for another HN2 user, or for Andre or Supertonic.

Same here I find the Manual very confusing, I am following this thread hoping you get an answer.

Disregard everything before 1:37 in the Synfire video. Actual harmonizing starts from there.
@fred1028:
Import first, then harmonize. Do the import on the main tab (Mixer) with Phrase -> Import.
Switch to the Harmonizer tab, check the instrument on the input list and start harmonizing as shown in the video.

I don't get any chord choices?

Select the proposed transition points on the piano roll view.
You can add more points with + or delete any of them.

I have another question on this topic: After the midi import. What does the list on the left indicate? [] Piano, [] Chords [] Bass. and why when only the piano box is ticked the harmonize button is greyed out unavailable?
I would think the Piano is the imported melody. But I guess this is wrong. I must be thinking about this incorrectly.
Thanks for the help.

The imported melody goes to the instrument you have selected when opening the import dialog.
Perhaps you want to add a new instrument before importing?

In Synfire, I often find the harmonize button is greyed out. If I go out of the harmonizer and then back in again, it is no longer greyed out. I think this is a bug but I'm not sure if it's the same in HN2.

@ supertonic
That's it. thanks add the instrument first. Thank you.
@ petearch
No that was not it. The one piano part still greys out but not a problem as I still get a very useable harmony. Thanks.
