Is there a tutorial somewhere on the topic of phrase pools? I've read the relevant sections of the manual, but I find it impenetrable.
Thanks.

Thank you for your assistance, but that video is only peripherally about phrase pools. I guess I'm looking for something much more in depth.

Is there more information to find ? : phrases are cutted in parts by Synfire to get a pool of short phrases and the parameters from the imported midi are also stored.
You are free to chance some of this parameters for a pool phrase (harmony, etc)-beware of the distinction between a figure and a phrase.
You can fabric een pool of phrases for a library use and choose a pool phrase a start for a pattern(variation)=musical motif
Harvesting a midi file for a phrase pool : choose parts of the (imported)midi of your musical interest and bring them in a library.
(there is a tutorial about how importing a midifile : for harvesting you import the midi as "static"..then you can listening first for a interesting musical part of the midi file that you like ..as i understand it correct.
Then the static phrases must be transformed to synfire pro format...that can be done in the library itself?
If other forummembers see more advanced use of the phrase pool ?

You are probably looking for instructions on using the library window (which includes a phrase pool editor)? There is no specific video covering this yet. Basically it's merely a window that bundles a couple tools you probably already know:
- a list of phrase pools (same as the embedded one in arrange window shown in the intro video)
- a phrase editor (same features as in arrange window, when you open it on an instrument there)
- a harmonizer for detecting harmony from the phrase's take (ditto)
- a tab for playing the phrase with different harmonies (testing)
The whole purpose of this editor is to browse all the phrases in a library and have all tools conveniently in one place.

See Harvesting video https://youtu.be/MdY0Xwj36sc
I do have just made a good import of the realrick vst for a picking pattern by importing the exported guitar pick pattern as static , harvest it and it goes to the internal library ..from there to the external library..and do the figure recognition there ( to synfire pro format ).
The guitar picking pattern is now as library phrase available and it sounds similar as in the realrick Vsti!
I am struggling a long time without a satisfied result to get the flexphrased patterns from Halion 5 for guitar ( and more instruments) into a Synfire Library
I try it again with the static import method...

Becomes problematic with importing static flexphrase from Halion 5 : the keyswitches
In Cubase the exported mid flexphrase plays the guitar pattern correct, but not in Synfire caused by the instrument range
It ranges form C1- to C8 the midi data ... Synfire does not pick up this range during static import..it changes: taking outside of new synt-shifting octave
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I like to see a new import feature for static midi data where i can manual give up the correct octave range
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then the figure recognition must also be able to handle this ?
The keyswitches midi positions must be accurate too in Synfire ...otherwise the flexphrase is not good working anymore

If you want to import midi data that includes key switches, you need to remove the key switches first.
You can import everything as static first, then delete key switches manually from the Take before you re-do the figure recognition in the arrange window.

Yes, but the the keyswitches are a essential part of the flexphrase pattern sound..can't without it.
Therefore i do need the original position of the static keyswitches from the flexphrase in Synfire.
In order to try to get this working i do need 2 instrument tracks for the flexphrase in Synfire
- one for the keyswitch
- one for the midi pattern
I don't know how it sounds with chord chances ?
It is worth a try , because there are a lot of instruments in HALion who uses flexphrases.

Thanks to Janamdo for posting that link, and of course to Andre for making the video. I think it has me pointed in the right direction.
