While recording you tap a key on your computer keyboard and synfire evaluates two informations:
+ When was the key pressed -> onset time of the note
+ How long was it pressed ->the note value (quantiszed length of the note)
There could be two scenarios:
1. You have already entered all notes one after the other with the correct pitches/ vertical positions and ANY length and "only" need to arrange them, which can be accomplished with the new feature
Before (every underline is a note):
_ - _ _ - - _ -
After recording (concatted underlines are one note)::
______ ---- ____ ________ -- -- _ -------------------------
2. You have not entered any note, so synfire will simply generate a note on the base line (adjusting the pitches is a easy task)
Maybe you can already do this (1.) using a midi controller (??), but you do not always have access to a midi controller (e.g. travelling by train) and furthermore there is a high latency using the internal midi synth (and when beginning with a new compostion, its sounds are sufficient)
