testimony of my disappointment

I have been user of synfire for 8 days.
it is a little short to succeed in using it correctly.
then I ask all those which for a rather long time use it to show us the results a little that they obtain.
there are well among you true composers able to produce “coherent” musics.
I do not regret my purchase but I realize that the only “justifying” examples are made by the designers of synfire!!
these examples are very few besides. I commit myself showing you my work as soon as possible.
for the moment, I am disappointed and frustrated. I await your comments and your reactions.

The designers of Synfire admit that they should provide more examples ;-)

Anyway, there is no black magic behind the current examples, nor did we cheat anyone. The pieces you see and hear were all created in very short time.

It is hard to guess where exactly you got stuck. I would love to help. From your description I assume you're not satisfied with the results you get, because it is difficult to figure the particular workflow that gets you where you want. No doubt, it isn't trivial to guess this, lacking a decent collection of tutorials (one of the reasons why this release is called an early bird).

Synfire does not compose automatically. In order to get "coherent music" (nice term!), the composer needs to have a picture of what should happen in the music. Synfire then helps to put this picture to live very quickly.

It is much easier to get coherent results when you import stuff from other composers, break that into pieces and build a new composition from that. This much simplifies the task of building the dialog/texture between the individual instruments manually. This is what I did with the Bruckner example.

Sketching a piece built on figures in the phrase editor from scratch is a lot harder, because you need to know how your particular style of music works:

* What are the typical rhythms and textures of my style?

* How do the instruments cooperate?

* Which instruments can be used in which combination top achieve a certain effect?

* What are the typical harmonies that define the style?

* etc.

The best way to learn about this is to listen to real music and write down one's observations. This helps you make a plan of your composition.

The above is mostly based on the assumption that you are making orchestral music. Jazz, Latin and Pop are less complicated, but still require that you figure out a plan and stick to it. Drawing figures in the phrase editor and looping them does not suit every style.

Possibly I am completely off track and you're doing something entirely different -- so let us know. Tell us about what you're doing and what you want to achieve.

Well Andre is right the program does not compose by itself you need to know what you want first, I've had this program since 3 months now and I can tell you it helps you a lot in getting what you want, I have made a lot of songs in several styles, bossa nova. salsa, electronic just to name a few, and whats better really complex arrangments since some of the styles of music I made require that, like the salsa style, this program helps you a lot, you just can't do that in the other sequencers since there is only static pitch in a normal sequencer, and with synfire the harmony explodes its a party of color and harmony, I believe this is the best thing that has happened to all the musicians =)Synfire makes me happy happy, hehehe its a joy everytime I compose something and its so funny too, it even relaxes me the ideas come up and I can change what I want with very little effort, I guess that Andre didnt put some more arrangements in the program cause he really didnt have the time with all the programing and the release stuff, cause like he said you cant get nice ressults in very short time. well my two cents. Hey Andre keep working, the program rocks you totally Rule =)

I know that I must still work and I also know that this software is a blessing for the composers!! I am just a little disappointed to encounter technical difficulties
because I do not control sufficiently English (I use a translator to correspond with the "synfire” community )

I would not have given more than 900$ if I were not convinced of his enormous potential!!!!!
I am very interested by your work. (bossa nova is one of the my objectives)

do you have an Internet site? I would like to listen some songs made with synfire to give me courage.
