Working with Embedded Libraries

Posted

I've recently started working with these and I think the little button that lets you review phrases using the tempo of the current project and the selected instrument is fantastic.

However sometimes I think a phrase isn't suitable, but if I drag it in anyway and then use Transform to stretch it (either double or half speed) it fits perfectly.

Is there a way this could be done from inside the library?  For example, a button to preview at normal speed (as currently) and two more to preview at double and half speed of the project?

Making a x2 and /2 tempo option available would be great.

I also have a question regarding embedded libraries: I started gathering up very short phrases and I noticed that after adding 50 of them the time needed for indexing them becomes significantly larger. Is there a way to compress them or loading a specific embedded library file (only with bass lines, for example) so that the loading and indexing them is still short enough?

Also, since I have different libraries with ideas from different musical genres and instrument types, a great idea would be to add the posibility of listening them on the actual project harmony, tempo and selected library directly in the library itself (files with .coglib extension) so that it won't be needed to convert them into embedded libraries. Even if such a conversion would be needed, it would be great to have the possibility of selecting and copying/moving more than one idea at a time.

Thanks!

I would like to have embedded library content editable by double-clicking like in "normal" libraries. The extra step of opening a copy of the library appears somewhat superfluous to me.

I mainly use the embedded library for quick keeping of ideas in the project like in a scratchpad and for extending the undo history.

It's difficult and clumsy to link a standalone library to instruments exclusively available inside an arrangement. That's what the embedded library is for.

You can open other libraries from the arrangement using the pull down menu, if you want to browse their contents.

"Good idea" usually means it made it to the wish list already ;-)

Oh, yes, the dropdown menu works great for creating new embedded libraries. But if I created those on my laptop, how can I move them on my desktop - where are they saved ? Thank you!

I started to make little short embedded libraries with the dropdown menu, and I have two more question: is it possible to select more snippets (midis, ideas, call them whatever you like) at a time from the normal libraries and transfer them on the corresponding embedded library with drag and drop instead of doing this one operation at a time, which is very time consuming ? I have tried using the shift key, it's not possible.

Also, is it possible to enlarge the dimension of the embedded library in the project? There are some name files that are too large for its actual size and I can't diferenciate them since are differentiated only by a letter that is out of the window at this moment.

The libraries go to your personal documents folder under "Libraries". Can not look up currently where that is on Windows. Please check the "Files" tab of the preference settings.

Drag and drop does not work with multiple folders or pools. Maybe it should. Need to think about it.

The embedded area in the arrange window is not resizable. I think a tooltip with the library name would be a simple solution for now.
