Working on a new track, pretty much finished except the mixing and other cleanups. Putting it out for comments as Im totally deaf above 8khz so always need help with the mixdown.
Composed in synfire, drones in Ableton live. Vocals by Veela.
Workflow:
Original vocal lines converted to midi
midi imported into synfire and harmonised
Key changes and new progression in synfire
melodyne used to alter vocals to match output of synfire
Sounds by Access Virus, ANA and ableton live
Some of the virus lines are using the virus arpegiator.
Extra risers, crashes, etc added in ablton live
Vocal and sound processing in live (reverb, delays, etc)

Noob question.
Did you harmonize using the harmonizer by keeping the vocal melody constant? If yes, then when you changed the key and progression didn't the melody change? Then what was the need to harmonize it first? Couldn't you just import the melody and change the key and progression?

I used the convert to midi in ableton on the vocal and cleaned it up before importing to synfire as a static for harmonic analysis. This was to be the basis of the song. I harmonised it to try come up with a decent progression and then added the other tracks.
I wasnt entirely happy with the results and so changed the key and progression. The vocal line was re-analysed so synfire came up with new notes to fit the new key and progression.
I then used the notes in synfire for the vocal 'track' to edit the original vocal samples in melodyne to match the notes in synfire.
Hope that explains the reasoning and process?

Yes, that cleared up about the workflow. The amazing thing about Synfire is that I can match melody with harmony or harmony with melody or both with one another at the same time.
