Averaging midi takes, possible?

Posted

Hi,

I had another question.

I have a midi guitar and sometimes when I record it will add notes I did not intend to include or slightly mess up the rythmn.

I was wondering if there is a way in synfire to make an average take from multiple takes that are relatively the same.

I included a screenshot of the takes I created and imported into synfire. As you can see they are very similar, but not exact.

I don't know if this can be done or if it is even synfire's intend to do such things, but I thought I'd ask.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice you may have.

Greetings!

Interesting idea. Synfire doesn't support this though. If anything, this would probably fit best with a DAW, which is in a far better position to offer sophisticated recording options.

I would quantize the best take and add some humanization (using the clickboard) to loosen up the strict timing a bit.

It generally gives you best results when figure symbols are exactly on time and the appearance a of human performance is simulated with parameters, e.g. Shift, Rhythm, etc. This is because exact timing much helps with cut/copy/paste, harmonization, and many other workflow functions.
