Regarding 2 could be a mismatch of time signatures (scheme). They need to be all the same and equal to the snippets root container (select an empty snippet cell to select it). There's a bug that caused them to get out of sync (also fixed already for next update).
No. Regarding 2. I've figured out the bug and it is hairy one.
When playing a phrase in the Snapshot view, the figure only begins where the anchor note is. If the first note(s) are not the anchor, they will simply not sound. This does not happen when clicking play in the transport bar, only when clicking play in the Snapshot view.
May I interrupt the conversation briefly for another small issue: It would be nice if long device names were not truncated in the rack. There is enough space to display at least two lines.
I am currently editing a catalog. I noticed that as discussed, automatically added scales are now made persistent if they are based on a persistent scale. Thanks for that.
Not sure whether this is related, but seemingly the overwriting of previously existing chords can instead lead to chord item names with an appended .v1. This behaviour is a bit annoying for chords, but usually I can simply rename the custom chords in question.
However, in the catalog I am currently working on, even the name of the major chord (added intervals 3 and 5, which by default has an empty name) became somehow .v1 (though I don't remember trying to change anything with that chord). This impacts all sorts of other features (e.g., the C major chord now is shown as C.v1, suggested chord names are affected etc.). Also, I cannot fix this name myself, as the name of the major chord is seemingly protected (grayed out and cannot be edited).
I've gotten Synfire 2 to sync to Live 11 via the rewire transport. However, when working with Snippets there is no sync. This would be very useful because I put vocal audio on Live and create arrangements around it. This would allow me to flow on the fly much like in Live's session view.
Is there a plan to implement this in an upcoming update?
The version suffix .v1 is appended if there's a clash with the same name already in the catalog. Actually you should be able to later rename that chord to get rid of the suffix. I don't know how the Major chord ended up with a suffix. Actually it should be the other chord that clashed with it.
This needs certainly more scrutiny, but currently the priority is elsewhere. If Synfire warns of a clash and suggests replacement, it can be due to the name, the intervals, or one of the alternative names that clashes. In general you should avoid replacing anything and rather add alternative names to the existing structure (or rename it altogether). That should navigate you around quirky side effects for now.
FYI: The catalog is indexed by structure, i.e. it's the intervals that identify a structure and all the names are just labels for humans to distinguish them.
I just enabled external sync for snippets as a test and it works fine. So, not a problem at all.
The DAW will however start from the very beginning every time you (re)start a snippets session. If that's ok, it will be included with the next update.
Thank U my brother. I'm just getting back to the music. The update is amazing! I pray that one day we will be able to bounce out individual stems from Synfire and have one channel of audio so that we can chord a melody within the program.
With these two things implemented, I probably would only use a DAW to mix. Everything else I could do in the program.
Ohh, last thing.
Can U add the ability to break out the Snippit window to itself? This way I can send it to my Ipad Pro and use it like a Push controller with the touch screen!!
We have plans to eventually use TouchOSC to control playback of snippets, which is cross-platform.
Tip: Try the piano factories to generate phrases with a groove you like, then split the figures into separate lines for bass, chords and melody and you already have the foundation of a dance track complete.
In Synfire 1, when dragging a parameter from the library to the instrument (left side), it would correctly copy the parameters to the relevant parameter field(s). Doesn't seem to do that for 2?
Concerning drag & drop, Synfire distinguishes between multi-parameter phrases (replace the entire target phrase as whole) vs. single-parameter phrases (replace only one parameter).
The handling of this is a bit muddy in 2.0.8 and has been improved for 2.0.9.
For now you can switch to the Parameters tab on the left sidebar and precisely drag the parameter you want. That makes sure you don't accidentally replace a phrase when you only want Harmony or Velocity, for example. Grabbing the phrase is not quite safe at the moment.
Thanks. What's the ETA looking like for 2.0.9? Happy for it to be ready when it's ready. But just thought I'd check if it's imminent or quite a way off?
2.0.9 was actually due today. The review of some new content and testing took a bit longer though. Aiming at tomorrow.
We will have a great new harmony factory "Stray Chords", plus tons of new chord progressions in the Example Harmony library. Many of them generated and sifted through manually.
Arrangement Templates: A dialog comes up after File >> New with templates to choose from. This content will only be completed and reviewed for the final release, but you can already add your own templates to the folder.
Oh and the rest of the list is really long.
2.0.9 will be the last pre-release. We are approaching 2.0 offical release now.
It's just a folder where you put arrangements that serve as a starting point so you need not start from scratch every time. Never expected this to be so handy, but it really is.

Modulation interpolation doesn't seem to work in snippets - it jumps from value to value instead

Once the above bug is fixed, this is going to be incredible for orchestral piece structuring:

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Of course, I understand.
