Routing of Phrases to Multiple Instruments

Posted

I would like several instruments to play the same phrases. Any idea how I can achieve this?

Of course, I could distribute the phrases manually to all the corresponding instruments, but then I have to adjust each change manually in all instruments. Another possibility is to connect Synfire to a DAW and use the routing features there to distribute the data to the desired instruments. But it's all cumbersome. Isn't there an easier way, directly in Synfire?

What is possible in Synfire is to store phrases in the global track, which are then applied to all instruments. But I don't want them to be applied to all instruments, just some of them. This would require one global track per instrument group (which however does not exist). But maybe there is another idea?

In my opinion, the only thing you can do if you have track with one sound with a phrase on one midi channel.
Add a new instrument and assign it to the same midi channel.
Also depends on the vst plugin you use. For  Halion  Vst  you can put two sounds or more on the same midi channel.
Suppose you have Halion Vst in a rack on one track, then you can set up multiple sound if I have it right
All instruments set op A1 channel...

Yes, with a multi timbral plugin like Halion or Kontakt I can also load multiple sounds and assign the same MIDI channel to them. But I was thinking more of several different plug-ins that are controlled simultaneously. And preferably without the use of any third party software.

Yes you can add a phrase to the container parameter block, instead of the channel parameter block, then you simply add a separate figure to the instruments that you don't want playing the same figure(usually drums). Does not have to be root container, but any container.

Also, if I am not mistaken this is what instruments groups are for, though I have not made use of them yet so I am not exact on their inner workings.

Ah yes, right. That's a good idea. With separate phrases at individual instrument tracks I can overwrite the phrases at the global track so that only some but not all instruments play the same thing. I forgot about that. Thank you.

As much as I know, the instruments groups are just an UI thing. These make it possible to display only selected instruments (which have been assigned to an instrument group) in the track sheet. If there were a global track for each instrument group, that would of course be great.

Global tracks per instrument group would be a pretty disrupting change, both UI and internally for rendering.

I can rather imaging phrase aliases.
