Hiya
I was on the wondering how many preset chord progressions come with Synfire...
My music theory is almost non-existant, and I see that the expansions section on the site is empty...
Infact, after a second look it appears there isnt even a section for them?
Having had a go with HN, I know it has a couple (the Eb one is good), but was hoping the Synfire had plenty more...
To give you an idea of what I mean, take the pads on the Korg M3, they have heaps of chord progressiions (8 steps each), so your not stuck (to tell you the truth, I nearly bought one, more to the point, for only that reason...)
I'm basically looking for Jazz & Gospel progressions as those are the hardest for me to find any longer than two or three steps... or those M3 ones (know anybody with one?) :)
I know there's a unlimited amount of progressions out there, that you can acquire from midi files or make if you know what next positon would work without ending up dissonant, but that's a whole heap of searching when you're just starting off with a new piece of equipment, which can be really daunting...

Google for "Ralph Patt Jazz Vanilla Book" and you'll find a huge collection of songs and their chords. Getting them into Harmony Navigator is simple. Just type in the chord symbols and set the global key.

Even though it's helpful, you have to take into consideration that someone knows those tunes in the first place, as the only ones I see (that I recognise) are Big band/Ragtime-type Jazz...
which is all good, but I'm looking for stuff like this...

The cool bar piano style in the Youtube clip results more from the way the guy plays (i.e. the phrase), rather than the chords alone.
More progression examples would be nice to play around with, no doubt. Although, they are rather easy to explore and make yourself with the palettes. Actually, that's what palettes were made for.
BTW: If anyone is willing and able to do this research (find more progression examples), we would be interested in delegating this to freelancers in order to move forward faster. There is some demand for sample content of all musical styles too. Just let us know.
Re Motif XS: The only thing you need to do is to go through the sounds and drag them to their appropriate instrument category. Without the hardware at hand, we can't do that, unfortunately.
