Synfire seems out of sync

Posted

hey guys,

I'm experiencing out of sync problems..I'm trying to understand why

I got mixed tracks, some vst some internal synth so i thought was because the windows internal synth has big latency, but I still have the problem with only vst tracks..of course I tried to quantize all tracks to see if there was a quantization problem but nothing

any ideas?maybe some hidden settings I need to look into?

First thing I'd do is send everything to the same synth ... any one of whichever ones you are using ... and see if things are still out of sync.

You don't say how many different ones you are using ... but it sure sounds like a problem of different latencies in the playback of the different synths.

If when you choose one (and then try another) as the single sound source everything is in sync, then you'd know it wasn't Synfire.

Make sure if you are using a daw that you are using rewire transport to sync the two together.

I will try tonight when I get home..using 2 vsts I have the sync problem..I will try with one vst and 2 or more tracks, although I have never had problem with the same vsts in others daw

ok guys, it seems that all the latency comes from internal GM synth played togheter with vst.

I know that the latency cannot be controlled but it's very big, I mean..at 120bpm it's like 1/8 -1/4 of a measure

Why Do I use GM synth?just for quick reference..it's fast that's it

cheers

It has nothing to do with the internal and VSTis being played together. The latency undoubtedly come from the internal GM. You only notice it when played together with the VSTi ... otherwise you don't when it's 'synced' with itself. ;)

hey Prado,

this is exatly what I was trying to say...I noticed the latency when GM and Vst were palying togheter, of course if I play only GM I have no latency in the music because everything is synced (but delayed)

the question is: is it possible to setup the GM  latency so I can listen it with vst?

The is an option somewhere in the device/instrument setup where you can specify the latency. Might take a bit of trial and error to get that set correctly for your gm synth. Also there is an option to ignore latencies.....make sure that isn't on. I think that last option is in the preferences somewhere as its global.

Ha, ha! I'm still going to say latency exists whether you notice it or not.

An alternative is to get a GM VSTi. Luxonix Purity is a pretty good one. You can also get a VSTi soundfont player and download one of the soundfont GM banks.

It all is VSTi, presumably you won't notice any latency.

everything has latency of course..but the latency in vsts is not noticable, if I play a vst I have no problem..with GM windows synth, it is noticable

nothing strange to me I just was trying to decrease it...but probably as you suggested its better to go for GM vst

but then the question is: do I need to make a description of all banks?I mean I'm using GM window synth because ir's ready out of the box so I can just load an instrument..

cheers

No, you don't need to make a new description. You can use the same device description that you use for the internal GM synth (as all GM synths have the same sound assignment). You can connect it directly to a VST GM synth (with the port selector).
