Ability to set up custom ranges for tonal orchestration

Posted

A means of extending the three actual ranges (lower, middle and upper) would be greatly appreciated.

By example, the tonal ranges from Arthur Lange's spectrotone are based on 8 categories, though each instrument doesn't possess the 8 different tonal categories.

Interesting concept. I googled for it and found this:

The playing ranges of Synfire however, are strictly in the pitch domain. If I didn't miss something, the spectrotone thing is more about timbre.

Well the spectrotone is about tone and timbre

There are 10 tonal categories associated with the pitch range of instruments and linked meaningfully across instruments by colors.

Then for each category is associated particular timbre descriptions.

So, will such feature( custom ranges) be eventually implemented, or should i build instrument templates by tonality for some ranges i want to work with ?

[quote]Our current idea is to introduce a new Range parameter that deals with this.

We feel the static playing ranges per instrument do not suit well for non-orchestral projects.

This doesn't suit too for orchestral project !
