This one seems like a bug.
Attached is a .mid file containing 10 bassline phrases in a row, 4m each.
After importing it and doing the Auto-Split Take (4m) operation, the note that should be starting the 2nd chunk is actually found at the end of the first chunk, and all the chunks to follow are similarly wrong.
The infamous off-by-one error? <g>
It is easy to confirm the 10 bassline phrases in a row, 4m each by dragging the file into a DAW and looking/listening.
We need the same result in Synfire - a good clean import for building up our Figure library (of basslines, in this case).

It seems to be grouping melodic segments. Too much guesswork and assessments for this simple purpose. It's great for long instrumental tracks, like 180 measures of a brass section, but obviously overdone for tightly packed MIDI "collections" like this.
There should maybe be a switch that turns all auto-splitting into verbatim-measure-by-measure?
