I'm trying for a suspenseful feel, and lowering the 5th scale degree seems to be a good place to start.
But I don't know how to do this in Synfire.
I see that under the Palette tab I can choose Palette/Scale Set/More, but after that I'm lost.
Anyone?
Thanks.

Edit your progression to use vertical scales that have a lowered 5th degree. If you don't know them by name you can browse them in the Catalog of Chords and Scales.
If you pick a scale that doesn't 100% match the global key of the harmonic context, it will modify the local key accordingly. Think of it as borrowing notes from a related key for the duration of one chord.
You can also pick a horizontal scale with a lowered 5th and build a palette based on that (just drag the scale onto a palette and delete other scales you don't need)

I guess I should have been more explicit as to what I was asking for.
When I get to Palette/Scale Set/More and look through the various tabs, it's not at all clear which scale I should select to result in a lowered 5th.
I see there's a b5 under the Chord tab, but it's not nearly so obvious under the Scale tabs. I suppose I could audition the various scales one by one until I stumble upon the one that gives me a flat 5 and no other alterations, but what a waste of time.
I did a Google search for the name of the scale I'm looking for and there were many suggestions, but none of them appear in the Scale lists in the Catalog.
So let me ask this directly: Which scale from those available in the lists will give me a flat 5?
But I plan to check out those Scale lists also, because maybe that will lead me somehwere interesting.
Thanks, Andre.
