Midi keyboard makes no sound

Posted

I have selected my midi keyboard in the routing menu and clicked 'use this port for input' and then in a palette window I have clicked 'midi input' and also 'midi live', now when I press the midi keyboard keys I can see the palette blocks changing colour which seems to be correct but I don't hear any sound - also if I try and record no chords are recorded in the notepad panel. If I click with the mouse in the palette window then I hear the notes.
I must be doing something wrong? Thanks for any advice.

OK I've got it figured out now. Is there a way to get chords triggered when pressing single midi keyboard keys? Example - If I select a global key of A Minor and I then press A on the keyboard it will trigger ACE, with maybe an option to also add the 7th (G)? Thanks.

Basically the idea sounds nice and other users have also suggested it. However, there's a non-trivial problem to solve:

In a palette, you can easily see how many chords match each step of the scale (the columns). How is HN supposed to make a decision which chord to play when you press one of these scale tones?

Or in other words: There are many chords that start at the same scale tone and no algorithm yet exists that could choose one in a predictable way.

It might be possible with basic triads and a single major or minor scale only. All the fancy other chords could be simply ignored. If that is what you are looking for ...
