I have therefore resorted to drag and drop.
This way, is the only way I have found to be reliable and avoids each track opening as a new song.
The Synfire track is dragged to the instrument pane. The mouse button is not released. After several seconds, an open MIDI file popup appears. The cursor is then dragged to the track panel and released.So far this has proved to be 100% reliable.
I would be interested to hear of anyone else’s experience with Synfire & Studio One version 6.

ReWire is not needed. You can use MTC which works fine:
Studio One 6
- Enable MIDI Time Code (Loopback Port)
- Enable MIDI Machine Control (Loopback Port)
- Set tempo (manually)
- Enable input monitoring for all tracks with Drones
Synfire
- Set SMPTE Offset to 00:00:00
- Disable negative locators
- Enable External Sync
- Enable MIDI Sync
- Select loopback port for output
- Select MIDI Time Code
