Sound only after recording

When I open the Synfire and Midi-Pass-Through (Icon top right) is enabled, I do not hear any sound when playing the keys.

First I need to record for a second. After that it works.

Synfire needs to know which instrument is to receive the MIDI Through events. Therefore you need to select an instrument once, before MIDI Through from your keyboard is going to that instrument. Recording is not necessary. Just select an instrument.

If MIDI Through is on and you selected an instrument, all MIDI input is going to that destination.

If you're on Windows, another program may intercept your MIDI input (a DAW?). Windows USB drivers sometimes have this issue, as they are not multi-client capable. You need to make sure Synfire receives your MIDI keyboard input first. Check that in Audio & MIDI Setup.
