Synfire 2.0.2

So., 01.05.2022 - 16:21 Permalink

What is the default location now for the embedded library on OS X? Synfire 2 is not loading my old libraries.

The embedded library is included with the arrangement. It need not be loaded.

You probably mean the other libraries. Locations have not changed. Libraries should be listed in the pull-down menu, if you installed the latest patch (Help >> Online Updates).

Per Andre:

"There is no point in customizing the examples folder. Examples get replaced with every update and you even get a warning when you modify them. They are automatically included in all file menus, so why bother?

If you want to keep the examples, copy them to your projects folder. I recommend you do so with the Factory libraries. They provide great starting points for factories that you may want to keep.

Your own libraries should go into ~Documents/Synfire/Libraries where they belong. And that can be on any volume or drive"

I'm going to assume that maybe you know something I don't, and do things your way for now. Maybe I'll get used to it.

Also, I notice that after I select a Figure to add to an Instrument, a popup asks if I want to change the sound of the Instrument to that associated with the Library from which I selected the Figure. Is there a way to disable this? It seems to be an uncessary step, and I can always change the sound later if I decide I want to. As it's currently set up, if I'm auditioning several Figures I have to click No each time.

Maybe I'll get used to it.

The idea is to keep things bundled in one place. Otherwise we would have eight or so user-configurable folders for the different file types. The files are small (10KB - 50MB). Is there a benefit in distributing them across multiple volumes? If so, let me know.

As said, you can point your projects folder to whatever drive you want your libraries on. It's just that the other Config files will go there too. Your arrangements and racks can be anywhere else. Synfire needs not list them in browsers or menus.

Is there a way to disable this?

Yes. Simply audition the phrases with the sound of your track (green link switch) instead of the sound choosen by the library.

Wow - an instant patch without even having to restart Synfire - very impressive!

Another instant patch today:

  1. HyperEdit returns to the wrong parameter when switched off
  2. HyperEdit parameters shoud not show up as resizable
  3. Figure should show in the background of Hyper-edited parameters
  4. Crash when dropping chord on yet unallocated progression at the beginning
  5. Edited custom articulations & CC lost after closing dialog

I've taken the patch offline, because some crash reports suggest there are issues installing.

I could not reproduce this, so please let me know if your installations are still working. Otherwise we need to get a big update out sooner.

Patch seemed to load fine and I haven't noticed any new issues. Using Windows 11 Pro.

Hey Andre

how do I get hold of this patch? Need the articulations and controllers save fix

Seems to be working for most people, esp if they try installing it a second time.

Unless bad surprises happen, the next update will be available tomorrow. Runs fine already but I'm reluctant to publishing this late in the day.

I'm sorry, but too many unexpected challenges popped up today. It's just impossible to handle this in the short time. The list of fixes and improvements got long. Version 2.0.3 is coming in 1-2 days.

In the meanwhile I've unlocked the last patch again, so you can bridge the time until the update.

It somehow caused aborted installs for some. No idea what the cause is, but it doesn't seem to do serious harm.
