Hi List,
I'm actually playing around with Messiaen-Modes and so I'm asking myself, for what purpose shall I rather define a new "Skalensatz" (dunno the term in Engkish) than a vertical or horizontal scale -- and vice versa. Any suggestions?

Modes are vertical (first choice), but you can use them in a horizontal role too. Synfire will create a horizontal version of the vertical scale automatically when needed (e.g. when you double-click on the vertical scale in the Catalog to open a palette).
By the way, if you open a palette on your scale, you can save the palette layout as a Scale Set (Skalensatz) to the Catalog using the Edit >> Save Scale Set to Catalog menu.
A palette is great if you want to immediately see which chords match your scale.
