Where do people store SFP project components.

Posted

I'm finding it a bit difficult on deciding where to store them.. When I create the songs, I want to store them in  a particular song project, which will also have text, reference mp3,s Logic song and audio file.  I also isolate chord progressions, to keep seperate from SFP song, Also libraries, which I will probably only use for that particular song.

How are others out there dealing with this?  I don't feel comfortable putting all things in SFP folders, because they quickly become bloated.

I have one folder for each project in which I store all files (Synfire projects, Cubase projects, Midi files, VST-Presets, MP3, and so on) which are related to the project. This makes it easier to move a project from one computer to another.

The suggested place for this is under your "Projects" folder that you can set in the global preferences. You can point it to any dedicated disk volume where all your projects reside.

The current version of Synfire stores all edited system files and shared racks in a "Config" folder under your project folder. It no longer keeps them hiden in its own file structure. This ensures you do not accidentally delete stuff you have customized when uninstalling or upgrading Synfire.

Thanx...  Currently I feel that I want to keep the cognac song files in a Song folder project.  There I also keep Logic songs, lyrics, reference material, (mp3's, Youtube videos of song, or any material I reference in creating the project. I still sometimes use BIAB for melody and solo parts, those go there too.)  I feel if I come back to the song in weeks, months, or a  year, I want all related material in one place (the song folder).

I'll extract the progression from SFP and store in Song folder (to use in Logic to drive Yamaha Style generators).  I'll sometimes created libraries, or phrases, I doubt I'll ever use in any other song

My SFP library, is already becoming unyieldy, yet it seems more logical to keep libraries in one central spot..

Yes, that's also a point. Sometimes it happens that I stop working on a project since I don't know how to continue for the moment. What if I want to continue the project after, say, a year. Then it is much easier to see what the last state of the project was and what files already exist when all relevant project files are stored together in one folder. Therefore I usually don't use the predefined project folders of the apps.

Hi Mark

Glad you brought that up.

What I'm going to do is keep all song files in a song file folder "My song" - "My other song" etc, and inside of those, as many subfolders as I need - Audio - Midi - SFP - BiaB - synth patches - etc.

All of this is in a dedicated partition and I point the relevant programs to the apropriate folders.
