Is synfire able to manage 64 bit vst instruments ?

Posted

Hello,

Ive received my new computer running windows 7 64 bit. I've installed successfully my daws /soft synths/pluggings ... For most of them I've installed the 64 bit versions only (for vst at least).

ive installed succesuflly the chery on the cake (synfire pro) and try to set up things from scratch, it recognizes only the 32 bits installed, I've search manual but could not find a clear explanation.

i have certainly skipped the information somewhere -:)

thank you for your feedback !

The answer is yes it can.  In fact I always use 64 bit VSTIs in Synfire, plus some 32 bit ones using jBridge.  There's an option somewhere that says 'always prefer 64 bit', or something like that, can't remember right now.  But yes, it certainly works.

Hi,I haven't had any considerable luck with 64bit vst's or any vst's at all, they (32bit) work  on and off,I just use a sounfount to monitor my sound, edit then export to Cubase.  Actually only Nexus worked for sometime, too many people complaining about these same issues. Must be some conflict there. I want to run Synfire on my Mac and see the difference.

Updating to 1.7 might help with VST issues.

Also be sure to point Synfire to the folder where your VSTs are installed (Windows only). The initial dialog that opens on Audio >> Scan Installed Plug-ins  provides an opportunity to do so.

Not that I like to say this, but OS X indeed makes a difference with regard to system audio.

The issue with ASIO on Windows is that it doesn't allow multiple audio programs to use it at the same time. Since your DAW, the 32 bit Engine and the 64 bit Engine are three audio programs that claim access to your audio interface, this causes conflicts in many cases.

The only solution being either to install a multi-client ASIO driver (there is one available from Steinberg, but I don't remember its URL right now), or to use different audio systems for the Engine and the DAW (e.g. DirectX, Windows Audio, etc).

SoundCloud is best for sharing compositions and collecting feedback. You can also embed your SoundCloud player into this forum's posts: Use the keyword soundcloud and the numeric ID of your track in square brackets.

That's perhaps true, but there are many users (myself included) who use Windows without any major issues.

What do you mean by this?  I don't recall seeing a lot of complaints on here, unless I've missed them.  Maybe one or two isolated incidents that were no doubt sorted anyway.

Thank you Petearch/ Andre  for your help (and boogsi777 to not highjack this topic with negative vibes -:)

So why when I scan the 64 bits vst folder the vst are  not visible (I see them during scanning process but then synfire reject them) on the 32 bits vst folder, they all work fine!

Any tips please ? Something to configure ? I have the very latest synfire windows version.

thank you all !

they are visible only to the 64 bit engine; you need to add rack modules on that engine ... not attempt this on the 32 bit engine.

                                                                        PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Between me and Solaris..Dude,give me a break ok! You realise I haven't posted anything else? It's bogsie777 by the way not boogsi777. My company gives me money to buy gear etc. I have to give results with what I purchase! When it's not working, then what? THIS NOT A 100 DOLLAR SOFTWARE. I have worked with Motown,Bmg all the way to Oliver Stone, not boasting but I have my valid reasons and a right to complain.  I own Cubase,Liquid Notes,Logic, synful Orchestra and a host of other products. Not just some random moronic person in here to create negative vibes!!

I posted positive things about SNF also and still use it despite the facts of my case. If you read carefully!!. I am about to let this subject rest. Presently, I am busy making music for a feature Film, this is where my focus is. My tools must work effeciently!  What is Negative about that? I should just sit and say nothing??  I just want what I payed my money for and as advertised. Or at least a follow up!! I do understand it's a small striving company. Music is business for me as well as pleasure!! You have a problem with Objectivity? If there are issues, they need to be addressed. No? What is a Private forum for? Safe, and walking on nails type comments. It's not like I posted this on Youtube or Twitter or something like that. I said what I felt on subjects that concerned me in a manner that I deemed was not  insulting anyone purposely or trying to intentionally hurt them!   Solaris,I am happy to hear your stuff works now! I hope to upgrade.

N.B. Dear Forum users I will not be posting anything else here on this subject. I can clearly see what's developing here...Andre has already emailed me in respectable and appropiate manner.  Any technical issue I will contact him.

                                                                 PLEASE LET THIS ISSUE REST

Thank You all. Happy Composing,

The downlaod-link is here: (http://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=48)
Video about the installation:

Note that it does not work with 64bit hosts (like Reaper x64). Make also sure that you disable "Auto close device" in your host.
