Andre,
Tested Synfire express Demo V2 .
Working with Reaper, Ableton,Cubase is different but not a problem to understand as an Engineer.
But Synfire v1 and v2 will take a long time to understand. And after several weeks
not using the software one have to invest time to learn again.

In this animated gif ..example use of containers (embedded, but can also a free one) for different harmony progressions: only the bottom (principle) container is active ( see green harmony parameter line in the container )
Rearranging containers can give different chord progression running over the instrument phrase instruments

see animated gif
Strange behaviour of the GUI of synfire ?
I do see now for the first time a rootcontainer only outlined on the outside
Using windows 11 now for the first time.
Very thick edges outlined for the other not root -container, and the green parameter is hardly to see now
Is this intended use ?

Looking forward to watching the 2.0 video tutorials. When will they be available?
And please, please make video(s) that explain the basic but hard to understand and essential concepts! I bought Synfire 10 years ago but could never get to a point where Synfire made sense to me. So finally I gave up but now I really, really want to make a fresh from the very beginning!!
And like you say, I'm sure that it is "actually pretty simple once you got the hang of the basics" so then please, make videos the explain this!

I don't really find it complicated. The learning curve is a bit steep since we're used to DAWs, but in a week/month (depending on the person) you should be fully comfortable with the software.
It now even features the embedded help, I mean, what else do you need...
Complexity is the least of Synfire's problems. Its numerous bugs, its laggishness, and the lack of notation support are the real dealbreakers for me, which are making Synfire my worst experience with a software that I've ever had in my life; and it's even payware!
Its harmony and factory features though makes it the only thing in the market that does what it does (rapidcomposer feels like a toy to me), so I cannot do anything else than hoping that it will reach a better state; improvements are being made, albeit slowly.

Recent 8 YT videos (search Synfire) ( one or two from Andre ) are very helpful. Import a midi file and use the right panel to play with a simple arrangement as shown in the videos. And back to Ableton asap with your new arrangement .

Hi Nick,
I totaly understand you, that it is not easy to understand the first time and I had the same with SF1 and gave up. But SF2 is clearer to me (or my brain needed some extra time) and now it works ;-)
You may also enjoy my video series, just startet to exlain different things.

Andre ,
Your YT video SYNFIRE_SHORT PHRASES _ PARAMETERS IN CONTAINERS is showing what synfire can do with a simple phrase . Great we need more videos with comment from you. All your video with only click from the mouse and music only are not for easy learning. And the female AI voice in your latest YT video is ok but your voice is more professional
