Playing ranges and typical pitches as dynamic parameters?

I've discovered the variation of the instrument playing ranges and typical pitches as another useful way to transform phrases. Unfortunately, these values are currently only fixed values per instrument. It would be great to have them as dynamic parameters just like the other parameters.

These new parameters could be implemented as 3 dynamic offset values: Upper Range Limit Offset, Lower Range Limit Offset and Typical Pitch Offset.

Absolutely agree. We have this on our list for quite some time. We
need a way to keep the number of parameters low. If you have any idea,
go ahead and post it.

Full implementation would need 9 parameters, which is to much and impossible to edit:

  1. low range bottom
  2. low range typical
  3. low range top
  4. mid range botton
  5. mid range typical
  6. mid range top
  7. high range bottom
  8. high range typical
  9. high range top

Lowest and highest possible pitch would never change anyway (physical limits),

Moving only the typical pitch would still be 3 parameters.

Moving only the typical pitch of all ranges together would be 1 parameter. Not sure if this would be enough contro, thoughl.

What about
dynamic low pitch
Dynamic typ pitch
Dynamic top pitch

As parameters but then decide if it's low mid or high based on the chosen playing range for the figure? That would limit it to 3 parameters plus the existing playing range one (low,mid,upper)?

a range parameter would need to be relative and proportional, or it is not portable across instruments.

  • +/- from instrument setting
  • measured in terms of "% of maximum pitch range"

If one can no longer replace the sound of an existing phrase, prototyping would be broken, we would be back at static sequencing again.

Hmm yes, there is also low range, mid range and high range. Would make 9 parameters all in all. I've overlooked that.

I was thinking of 1 parameter (called "Range") which consists of 3 values (bottom range limit, typical pitch and top range limit). They should be relative (i.e. produce range movements in +/- semitones) and editable together in one phrase editor window. See attached picture. If the new parameter "Range" ( which would get one "LED") is empty, then the typical pitch and the range limits take the original settings of the instrument.

But what to do with low, mid and high range? Maybe the 3 values I've mentioned above could move the range limits and the typical pitches of all ranges together?

I hope that  some day we will get a  more .. erm ...*elegant* solution. ;)

i am still wishing ability to save and recall as template..
and ability to apply templates to every type of instruments.

If I'm missing the point, I apologize, but I like using the piano keyboard to set ranges.

Use color coding for each of the three ranges and for each of the typical pitches.

Have a "handle" on the entire range-set, Low to High, so the entire range-set and typical pitches, could be dragged up or down together.

Have additional "handles" on each range so any one range and it's typical pitch could be dragged up or down.

That in addition to the range adjustments that can be made now should be quick and pretty easy.
