additive container

Posted

Normally a container overrides/replaces all data (figures,...) of other containers which are above this container, at least in the range it covers.

It would really make life easier if you could define for a single container: Don't overwrite, but MERGE / ADD the figures.

For example with drums you have your patterns and sometimes you want a single "crash" cymbal starting a beat 1. Currently to achieve this you would either

- need to create a new  pattern (copy the source pattern) and add a "crash" note. This is not very effective...

- or you would need to create a new instrument, just for a few single drum events (to place a single crash in a new container).  Seems not optimal too...

in option 1 you dont need to copy the drum figure, just make a snapshot of the figure then add the cymbol.

yes, but you loose a lot of flexibilty: when you want to change the drum figure afterwards or replace it, you would also need repeat this snapshot

Cool idea, although it would add to the already overwhelming complexity of the software. Also, not all parameters can be merged. Anyway, it is worth thinking about.

The way to do this now is to add an instrument on the same sound and place the extra figures there. So you have an instrument "Drums" and "Drums Addons" "Drums Fills", etc.
