AU or VST ?

Posted

As a personal experience and chats with plugin developers, vst versions work better and slightly more cpu efficient than AU's (In my case in Ableton).

What's better to use in SFE ?

Depends on the platform the DAW was coded for first. If it's a Windows host that was ported to Mac, use VST. If its an original Mac program, use AU. Developers tend to handle their original platform better than a port.

For the Cognitone Audio Engine, use AU plug-ins where possible.

Never use VST and AU drones in a DAW at the same time.

Well, there's my problem.

When I use Ableton I use vst's because they're much more reliable.

So when I use the drones I prefer to use vst's, but when you say use au's in SFE, it's not exportable...if you know what I mean...

If it works, there is no reason not to do it. The above rule of thumb is only when you are in doubt.

I'm used to using vst's in Ableton, since I have far less crashes than when using au's.

I have 1 plugin (padshop) which is au only...so I won't use it in Synfire then...
