Drone VST installation location?

Posted

Where does the drone vst get installed? The installer didn't ask me for a path, and I can't find it in the usual places .

All the manual says (p. 152) is "It should appear in the plug-in selection lists and menus of you DAW without requiring any manual setup, unless you have accidentally installed it to the wrong directory (Windows only)" ... that's not how VSTs usually work, in my experience.

Also, has anyone else gotten the midi export drag-and-drop to work with ableton? I drag it, press spacebar, and the cursor turns into a "+" , but it remains a circle with a slash when I try to drop on the arrangement view or a clip in the session view. I've tried ableton 9.1.6 and 9.1.7b4 (both 64bit).

Synfire Express 1.7.9build#5.

Oh, and hi, I'm new here. I'm from the audio engineering world, have recently been trying my hand at production, and decided that something like Synfire would be a great way to "learn by doing," with music theory.

Here's some examples of my stuff, pre-synfire:

Since I have Cubase installed, the setup has placed the drone VST in my Steinberg folder (Programs > Steinberg > VstPlugins). I can't say, where you can find it if you use another DAW, but you can use the Windows Explorer to search for: CognitoneDrone.dll

Thank you. I found it in c:\cognitone\engine64 (and presumably a 32 bit version in c:\cognitone\engine32).

I think I must have specified these directories when I had installed the demo... anyhow, I've successfully got Kontakt playing now from Synfire through the drone in Ableton. Thanks again!
