Drums velocity

Posted

Hello all,

How are you guys doing acoustic drumkits? Given the variations possible it's obvious the possiblity with sfp here for nice dynamic tasty drumming.

Lets do some mouse entry drumming.- select absolute and click and hunt for the kick.

As it looks here my kick is down to about -27 on the grid?

it stopped being a grid at about -21.thats pretty low, the notes are really small and floating in space, why have the grid end?

ok i hunt around and FIND the kick, snare, hihat toms etc  on the grid- whew!!!

Having notes all on one track is daunting. i see this polyphonic velocity, buti cant adjust the cymbal velocity without adjusting something else.

too tough - sooo

i put cymbals and toms on one instrument and duplicate instrument same sound with kick and snare on the second drum instrument.

then i group all the ride hits, group all the tom hits, group all snare and group all kick hits.

that way i can adjust the basic level of each by segment tool,<left click and drag up or down for velocity>

i wish i could somehow select these groups of notes in the velocity parameter window then draw in the velocity note levels.

maybe then you could do for any polyphonic instrument -

example open velocity parameter window...select all the bottom noteof all chords, then draw in the velocity-

then select 2nd from bottom of all chords, third from bottom etc.... thanks proto

Thanks! - But becomes a bigger problem with hihat, toms various crashes - velocity editing is really tough here.

I understand maybe this isn't sfp forte? - probably better to do drums in DAW -

Hyper editor appears to work great but it makes all the polyphonic velocities one level -

its working pretty good now - setting the velocity levels works for now.

thanks everybody -

Also try using the shape tool on the velocity parameter. It retains the different levels to a large extent and is quick and easy to use.
