Getting SFP to recognize Tyros 4 harmony feature.

Posted

NOTE: after fooling with it for a while, I did get SFP to record the 3 part harmony.   Will experiment some more.. it got a lot of the durations of notes wrong. But it is a neat way of creating a part.

I could also try making Tyros 4 the master, and SFP slave.. anyways I'll leave this post, although I answered my main question..

I would love to see SFP capable of driving the DAW or other applications..

The Yamaha Tyros 4 has the capability to create harmonies in real time... It needs to have a chord track to analyse.. This chord track can be either your left hand or any MIDI channel comming from a DAW. My intention was to record a three part harmony as I added a part played on Tyros 4.

I reserved MIDI channel 2 with whole note block chords.  I set up SFP on Sync page to use ReWire Transport Sync, and Rewire Temp. In the window is 'Transport2 Logic'.

So I can control the tempo, start and stop of Logic by SFP.  The sync, also drives the Tyros, I can watch the song progress, and see Tyros 4 measure window, it is exactly in with SFP, and Logic.

I set up Tyros to output 3 note harmonies, on MIDI channel 1...  When I put SFP into Record and start. it drives the Tyros, and I indeed can play 3 part harmonies, which exactly follow SFP.  I can also use any of Tyros 4 style generators to play a long and add any type of part I want (drums, bass, Guitar parts, up to 8 parts.

The problem is SFP only sees the one note I played originally, the harmony notes are missing.. After fiddling a bit, now sure what I did, SFP did record the 3 part harmony

I'm a bit confused by SFP manual

Reading the user manual, implies that Logic should drive SFP,  yet Logic doesn't control SFP transport. SFP transport controls Logic.

Logic in turn is outputting the midi clock to drive the Tyros.. If I quit Logic, SFP will not drive Tyros, so I quess, SFP is sending a start command to Logic, which in turn was putting out a midi clock to drive Tyros.

It would be nice if SFP could be capable of being master or slave in a sync situation.  This would open up a lot more scenerios for people to work with.. SFP has a bunch of very sophisticated tools.. The more people start using the program, the more ideas and concepts will coalesce into ways of using this set of tools.

Some might want to go down the path of live improvisation, (not really suitable yet). Others will want to create variations of ideas.. Others will want to explore previously impossible alterations, cause of the fact, one would have to rework each track to accomodate a new idea.
