How to edit velocity of imported midi?

I import midi, click on the H to see figure properties, then Velocity to see the velocity curve (the little circles)... but the editing options (Gestalt tool, free hand, Span tool select) appear to do nothing. How can I visually edit the velocity? 

One of the worst and most nonsensically convoluted guis I've ever seen in such an expensive product. Ugh....

The Gestalt tool should work. If it's disabled, click in the vector first to give it input focus.

Oh and select the Velocity parameter, of course.

It's working now, though it has to be extreme (very steep) to have any visible effect.  

We can't just select the velocity nodes and drag them to shape the curve?...

The dots can't be grabbed. The gestalt tool is meant to sketch the desired envelope, swiping from left to right along the time axis. No extreme movement needed.
