How to import this midi file..

Posted

I have tried on many ways to import this GM in Synfire , but i did not succeed.
What goes wrong here..

First i have tried to import this in Midi format 1, but could not get good results in Synfire, then i tried import in midi formaat 0.
First in Cubase with a good result and now i import it in Synfire in midi format 0..it seems that this is the solution !

The only problem with it is that all the drum parts are on separate tracks so Synfire thinks there aren't enough channels available.  You can get round this after import if you select the sound properties and re-assign them to the GM Drumkit.  Or you can merge them all into a single drum track if you like.

Pete, yes you are right .. that is the bottle-neck : the number of channels.
All drumsounds are now assigned to the GM drumkit on channel 10 for this midi file format 1
So i don't see any problem now: all 21 instruments are assigned within the max of 16 midi channels

All 12 drumsounds are now assigned by Synfire to channel 10 and all 12 tracks do have the right drum sound assigned to them ..good job Synfire !
What was the initial problem once again?

Another option (that I've just remembered) is to tick 'Retain Channels' on the input window.  I haven't tried it, but I'd have thought it should keep all the drum tracks on channel 10, assuming that's where they are originally.

I find it saves time to import into your DAW first and 'clean up' the midi file.. too long notes, drums spread out accross several tracks..

A pecurilaty of Logic is you can have events on different midi channels on the same track, yet that data is overridden by the MIDI channel you assign the track too. In Logic the advantage of different midi channels on a track, is if you merge harmonies, additional parts, glisses etc... You can always seperate them and rework them later.

However if you import a multi channel track into SFP.. it interprets if litterly, and you get parts of a track spread out over different MIDI channels, resulting in undesireable results.

Also articulations (extra high notes for Tyros mega voices, get interpreted wrong, those have to be stripped out.
