How many midi drones in Cubase

Posted

I have yet to see a way to start using multiple midi ports in Cubase with the midi drones.
From the looks of it, there is only 1 midi port with 16 midi drones in Cubase to connect to Synfire ?

You need to add drones in Cubase before you can use them in Synfire. Every drone has one port with 16 midi channels.

Have now switched from the Vienna ensemble pro server setup to a drone setup in Cubase 13 to give that a try since Cubase 13 also has a lot to offer.

How many midi drones can be used in Cubase 13 ?

Easiest seems to me to use a midi drone for each instrument in Cubase 13
The midi drone has midi channel 1 by default ..are there midi channels to set on it.
So a standalone midi drone with midi channel 2 only to get, and so on

Note: Have not yet gotten a working setup to connect the 16 midi channels of the drone for example in Halion Sonic 7 in Synfire and Cubase 13.

Twenty or so drones should be ok if your computer is fast enough. Use plenty scheduling headroom (sync settings)

You van make a midi device ( a midi drone ) with 16 midi channels in Cubase via the device manager, but that has nothing to do with the Drone provided by Synfire.

In Synfire: DAW Drones(Audio) and DAW Drones(MIDI)   ?
DAW Drones (Audio) is the VSt plugin from Cubase

In Synfire, in light gray color, a number of DAW3 Cubase ... links.
I try to restore these light gray links so that Cubase and synfire can use this instrument, but it does not work.
How can I remove these light gray links in Synfire, because they have become useless.
By removing them , maybe they can start to be used again these light gray links.
Leaving them in place can also...

It has become one big mess, the drone setup has no flexibility
Now in Cubase the Halion 7 crashes on a drone when loaded.
I created a template in Cubase, with some
light gray links and have to check the template again.
What to do now?
Going to delete everything in Cubase from the drone template and start over is also hopeless.
Starting with a new arrangement in Synfire also makes no sense because the DAW drones( audio) remain in place if i open Cubase with drones setup.
Remove all DAW links in Synfire, how does that work , like a reset?
Or the trouble drones removing only.

How can I remove these light gray links in Synfire

There's a lock you can unlock. That will remove their association with the arrangement they were originally created for. Then you can drop that Drone on an instrument or claim it with the Wizard again.

All Daw links have received an open lock now.
There was 1 Daw link that was gray and has now turned white.
Another 2 Daw links have remained gray : what does that indicate ?
( probably not present in current cubase setup, two drones with port number 3 and 17 : vb DAW3 Cubase : 03,etc )
Can only activate both drones ( become white again ) in Synfire by adding them in the current arrangement

But now there is another problem , because drone 3 in Cubase is assigned to another arrangement.
The current Cubase arrangement has a drone 3 , but it cannot connect to synfire
Of course no normal course of events, but now I have to find the arrangement of Cubase in which the connection to drone 3 is made
Would it be convenient to permanently delete a Drone link in Synfire itself?
Cubase came with the message that a back up of the project file would be newer than the current one and used that and this created this not to use two links between Synfire and Cubase ?

Now with re-opening in Synfire of the arrangement this more does not want to open
Now open with a new arrangement, but nothing to see the drones in Cubase open.
It seems that Synfire does not connect to the drones and the drones in Cubase are still present and also do not connect to Synfire.
This would mean that you have to reinstall the drones in Cubase , but reinstalling a drone again on the existing empty drone header does not work either.
That means the whole setup is lost, due to that automated backup of Cubase by a newer existing arangement with drones

I think it would still be more convenient to have an option in Synfire to delete a daw link and then re-create drone(s) in Cubase.

Now also the already created drone setup doesn't seem to work anymore?

Synfire can't add or remove Drones to/from the DAW. Only you can load them or delete them by hand.

Once a Drone was added to the DAW it appears in the list as white (available). When you use it in the arrangement, it turns gray (used).

If some Drone is still in use by a different arrangement (most likely a previous version that you spawned with Save As ... without also saving the DAW project under a new name), you can delete that Drone from the DAW and simply load a new one and use the Wizard to populate it with the plug-in or preset you need.

Thanks, would just put this in the online manual with how the lock works.
Using the method of putting drones into the DAW and then going to assign an instrument in Synfire.
Also explain the color of the connection for a moment.
