Key switches

Posted

I've done a search on the forum and there are several discussions about key switches already.

The ability to apply multiple key switches has been "on the list" for over a year now - https://users.cognitone.com/content/keyswtches-and-vsl.  Is there any progress with this please?

I understand how the current functionality works in Synfire, but I would also like to see the ability when importing MIDI files, (and also when playing live) to define the range of key switches at instrument level.  That way, all the key switches on the imported MIDI file (or the key switches recorded live) could be left entact and never moved by Synfire.

Is this possible please?

I've thought about this some more, and I wondered if it would be possible to have a new 'key switch' parameter?

Obviously it would have to be slightly different to the other parameters, i.e. you would have to show the note values (C1, C#1, etc.), but this way it could be independent of the phrase/track.

The parameter could be created automatically when importing or playing live, as long as you had the ability to define the key-switch ranges at the time.

It would also give you the ability to define multiple key switches.

Static key switches don't make much sense, since the main purpose of Synfire is to compose new music, rather than preserving existing music.

I see that stripping KS on import is useful, even though it requires the user to define a pitch range for them before the import starts.

You can always use static pitch figure symbols for KS.
