Play a wave file.

Posted

Hello Andre,

there is one feature i am strongly missing in Synfire: It is the possibility to load a wavefile and let it play synchronously with the Midi - output of Synfire.

The wavefile contains e.g. the singing or whatever i recorded outsite of Synfire. This would avoid to use rewire, which seems to be complicated and not intented to control the transport function.

Maybe other users who do filmscores would prefer to have this feature for video - files. I guess it is not a complex thing to implement a player in synfire, without any further editing etc. of course.

Maybe you could consider to implement this.

Best regards,
Mike.

Hello Mike,

sorry for the late reply, I just came across this suggestion again. Concerning the feature, it would be rather difficult to synch the recording with Synfire's MIDI internally. Just kicking off a playback in parallel to the MIDI stream doesn't cut it. This is what all the DAWs complicated technology is about, and they are doing it much better than Synfire could.

The easiest solution today is to hook up Synfire to a lean DAW (Reaper, or Ableton Live, for instance) and sync them via ReWire. This works fine to a large extent already. For a vocal recording this is absolutely sufficient.

This also has the nice side effect that you can host high quality sounds in the DAW at the same time.
