Any Day Now - Chuck Jackson - a cover by Mark Styles

Posted

Any Day Now was written by Burt Bacharach and Bill Hilliard in 1962.  This was a 'tin pan alley' song.    It was first recorded by Chuck Jackson in 1962, but has been covered by many other artists.

I started in SFP and did the bulk of work. The bassoon harmony was just the sax melody moved up/down on SFP music stave.  Several parts were created from midi parts of other songs..  Ported over to Logic and hand played strings, oboe, and flute..

Hi Mark. I've never listened this piece before. I think that music has the power of opening your eyes to see the world a little bit different or closing them to let you imagine it a little bit better. Today's a shiny auttum sunday morning here, in the east of Spain, cold but plenty of light. Your arrangement is the perfect soundtrack for it.

Only a suggestion: IMO, some bars before the ending it would be a good idea to emphasize that the end's coming using some break, muting some instruments or something like that announcing the finale.

I've uploaded 4 days ago a composition to Soundcloud. No comments have been made. But it has been listened 35 times. For me, enough comments. :yeah:

The song originally recorded by a Chuck Jackson, was an early Burt Bacharach - you can almost hear Dionne Warwick sing it, this was before, she may have recorded it too, cause it's really got Burt Bacharach stamped all over it.. The original version had a slightly darker feel, sullen feel, which perhaps I  should have gone with.. But this is what it is..

I get what you're saying, about the ending.. yes it's a good idea.. Yeah, the ending is kind of a mess.  Originally I planned to fade out, which is what I'll do rather than go back and figure out a proper ending..  I had worked on it for so long, and really did a lot in SFP, I was kinda over it..

I did remix it with a fade out ending..  4 tracks were seperate in Logic and the bulk of them about 8 were all in one stereo pass from Tyros.  Ideally i would thin out individividual tracks,  (strings get a bit heavy)..  This version will suffice for now..  I'm trying to get this woman Annette Bland McCoy (one of the Marvelettes for the last 16 years) to sing it..  So it will get a a lot of reworking anyways..

I appreciate your feedback..
