I try to construct a phrase ..start with a start note(symbol) ( only for this startnote i must use the mouse )
Duplicate a note (CTRl +D) , but ( i like) can i set the notelength with a keycommand ?
example : selected a note ..Than Ctrl+ LEFT /RIGHT gives the notelength.
The phrase were i am working on has overlapping notes.
I got the idea that bypassing the scaleboard (for me ) better works, because first working with the mouse than clicking on individual notes to correct the note lenghts is laborious as i have done in the past.
As extra to choose from as user it is convenient to have a work(flow) with one note after the another one ..with only the keyboard...agree?

Note: this issue became important , because i could not "painting" note symbols and must do note entry with the computerkeyboard or scale keyboard in Synfire

Great idea, maybe link the size it grows with each press to the quantise size?
In the meantime, try entering the notes without worrying about lengths, just get the pitch and starting position sorted. Then select all the notes you want to be of a certain size and enter the length in the parameter inspector. Then select all notes of a different size and repeat.

I do have here a rather easy example of a phrase example for a classical score for a choir with overlapping notes.
I seems that i cannot easy follow this example in Synfire.
When i use only the scaleboard , perhaps this can be improved too ? ( only using than the scaleboard )
Using the scale keyboard .. it is handy to go back and forward on quantisize positions ( for splitting a note.. )
Building up a phrase also note for note and the start top note is overlapping the next note
If there should be a extra knob on the scaleboard ..overlap ? ( how much .. a option)
Overlapping is (always) on the right side of the note: the topnote has a overlap and the the note below this starts on the quantisize value of the grid.
Further i must make also a notelength of 3/8 ( half between the first and second count) and don't see this value on the
scaleboard.
Ideal should be making the phrase with only your computerkeyboard or only with the scaleboard too..the choice is
yours.( not using the mouse anymore for both workflows in phrase editor itself.. the mouse only once than for choosing the startnote of the phrase )

"Painting" the symbols in.. intuiative from the example..but that is a fairy tail ofcourse?

Structuring the arrangement like the you tube example ..can be done by adding vertical measurements lines in the container and adding the name of the container at the bottom of the container. (like in Cubase is done)
Also on the container self can be added a visual sign of the phrase structure valid for that position inside the container ( the phrase must be edited in that container )
A easy solution for getting more structured arrangements and it is following the same workflow as in most other composer ( people are used on it.. so it attracts als new Synfire users )
To get quickly out of the limited arrangement structuring in Synfire.. keep it simple

How in the world you did it ?... i tried this also a few times with the paintingtool earlier, but could not get
the desired result.
Phrase painting seems to be possible..now only a beter structure oversight for Synfire..more advanced composing can be done.
A resolution of 1/16 for the quantisize grid gives all note positions.
I tried again and get a wrong result .. the startnote consists of 6 notes when i drag the pencil to the endposition

What i am doing wrong ? .. i cannot get the symbols with the right lengths
I faced this before and thought that the penciltool was only for drawing vectorlines, but that is not logical..why i was not more clever with this :roll:
Is this a bug in Synfire Express?
Is ther someone who can test this in his Synfire Express ..thanks

This one is rather difficult to find...no this is not userfriendly and straightforward for a starting composer in Synfire
Its almost a secret.. this is terrible...or do i miss something ?

Ok i can paint in notes finally
Note : is this documented in the manual? : Cubase has a pdf where all menu entries are explained --> that can be not so difficult for Synfire to get also a pdf for the menu entries?

This name is self -explanatory, but where to find ..that was the problem.
How to to deduce it:it had to do with "transformation"?
It is not effective to go thru the whole menusystem..
Well symbol (note) entry is a issue what has rather long history from me and the discussion about the computer keyboard en scaleboard keyboard symbol entry is because i could not get the pencil tool working, but maybe is there a improvement possible too?
Do you agree that it is better to have a pdf with menuentries in a pdf than searching in all menu entries in Synfire self ?
I think not all menu entries are self - explanatory..or do i miss something?
There are still menu entries who are unknown to me i think.. that is not stimulating the composing process.
But i am glad that the pencil tool is now correct working.
Note:
A starter with Synfire wants to be inputting notes(symbols) quick and that must be made easy for him.
I find it ridiculous after such a long time using synfire that i must pour out this information on this way

I enclosed a arrangement file.
The idea is to follow someone else his arrangement ..as learning experience in this case from dutch composer hugo tromp
If it is possible to add the Choir sus container under the Brass container..than you can build up a arrangement structure from someone else used in his composition.
Perhaps if you get the possiblity to make this container fixed ( and fixing and bypassing containers in general would also be helpful )
Note : to see the phrases in the arrangement .. choose the figure parameter in the packed container
Further i painted in with the pencil tool a choir ..very cool
