Add a backing inport Audio Track Ability

Posted

Love the product.   Getting into it now that I bought it, I would love to see the ability to add one Audio Backing Track to work around building my song.    Yes I know I can sync with a daw, but this is more about using Synfire as a Standalone product to noodle out a song idea without having to go into full daw production sync mode.    I should have the ability to only use Synfire in my workflow.    Having the ability to import 1 audio track to listen to and allow me to build a song around would be fantastic.

I see. While this would be quite possible, the challenge is to deal with different sample rates, channels, tempo changes and such. Also the user interface would need to provide a means to display and position audio on the timeline. Effectively, this would boil down to developing a small DAW.

That said, it's already on our wishlist anyway. I however don't think it will be possible to make this happen anytime soon.

The DAW sidekick works fine in most cases. Just add enough Drones to your DAW, minimize it and forget. The rest is managed by Synfire.

The only thing to care about is to save your project also in the DAW -- always after savong Synfire.

Personally I don't really need audio added to SynFire.

I have several very capable DAWs and audio processing plugins all of which sound wonderful. I've found that I can load all my VST instruments into the DAW with or without sync (Transport) and they play just fine.

When I need to add audio to the DAW, SynFire has two options:

If the DAW has rewire, you can sync them together.

If the DAW doesn't have rewire, you can convert the audio to midi and load it into SynFire for noodling.

OR - SynFire has direct midi Drag n Drop to most DAWs, which opens up lots of possibilities.
