Quantum Leap Goliath Virtual Instrument

Posted

Hello and Good Day to everybody,

Does enybody have experience with Quantum Leap Goliath Virtual Instrument?

Sounds great (I would say best), costs about 250 Euro or dollars, is STAND ALONE and GM compatible! Thats what I looking for. This would be ideal for me to use with Synfire.

I have both Goliath and Halion Sonic 2, and I never use Goliath.  In my opinion, everything about HS2 is much better - the sounds, the effects, the interface, etc.

If I could sell you Goliath I would but EWQL don't allow licenses to be sold or transferred!

If HS2 is an option for you, I would certainly go for it.  There's a 2-year-old thread here http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=378394 that backs up what I'm saying.  I also have Cubase but I assume HS2 can be purchased for use with other DAWS.

I think you can also get a 30-day trial with it too, so there's nothing to lose.

Thank you janamdo and petearch, I'll try to inform my self aboutHalion Sonic 2 from Steinberg. I have Cubase also, and I had it from the beginning, since Atari times. I started with "Happy Music" but it was long ago. Somewhen I got angry when they disscontinued "Style Tracks" and I.P.S. from Cubase. My software arsenal is large, specialized for composing with "artificial intelligence". Except Synfire, I have Obtiv Octava Tonsatz Professionell (http://www.professional-composer.com/) and I have translated all versions from Octava family from german to english. English is not my mother language but I think my translation is enough good to understand what is written about and to get the point. Software Pizzicato Professional is also one of my main software, programmed from Mr. Dominique Vanndeneucker (Arpege Music). We are friends and he comes to visit me every year to suggest or try out new ideas.

Wny I write this in this thread dedicated for sounds in Sinfyre? Very simple: trough the years I was nerved about that virtual instruments were not general midi compatible. Now days some "big fat sounding" virtual instruments are. It is not dificult to imagine how nervy it is to be bussy all the time with loading and remapping the sounds and patches during the work on my compositions and arrangements.

I just wanted to now how Goliath works with Synfire.

Best regards

Hi Leonardo,

Well, Goliath is a sampler so then you must extracted a device decription in Synfire for it and give it a name that's all there is. ( no device description extraction is made with getting sounds assigned to it ..check it out )
Then you can assign in a rack "fixed" or "GM" (multitimbral) or mixed mode ( fixed + Gm mode)  sounds to the Goliath soundmodule.

There is also a multitimbral (GM) device description to choose for General Midi sounds in Synfire and assign this to the GM mode of the Goliath sampler if you want use GM sounds.
You could only use GM sounds with the multitimbral device description, but you can transform it in a mixed device description too ( so it is better to make a copy of the GM device description in Synfire and use this for a "mixed"device description where you can combine General midi sounds and the other (native) sounds of the Goliath soundmodule )

Leon, the link you have posted contains reviews of Goliath from 7 years ago.  Just get the 30 day demo of Halion Sonic 2, you won't be disappointed!  Plus, you can use it for GM sounds in Synfire if that is what you want to do.  I have it set up as such in my default Global Rack.
