Dear all,
I bought recently Synfire, I have read some part of the manual and saw the online videos, the software looks very promizing using it at first, but I'm very quickly stuck to way of zooming and tools selection is handeling making the use of Synfire a nightmare with the mouse :
1/ Regarding zooming is there other way to perform zoom than clicking on -+ on zoom bar : are some scroll on timeline or mouse modwheel implemented to control quickly the zoom level ?
2/ Regarding tool selection, is there keyboard shortcut like Ctrl or Shift + mouse click to automatically select the right tool for editing the vectors in the pseudo pianoroll ?
Thanks for your feedback

Welcome to the user forum, Charles.
Command-Home, Command-End (the diagonal arrows) zoom in and out on the Mac. I can't check on Windows right now, but you will probably see the corresponding shortcuts on the View menu.
Tool selection works with Q, W and E. The W key resets to the span tool, while Q, E move left, right.
Keyboard shortcuts will get a complete rework. If you have any suggestions as to what would be a usabe default assignment for zooming and tool selection, let us know.

Many thanks Andre, I got it now, and shortcut will improve my workflow, I m just wondering if you can plan the mouse modwheel implementation for zooming, as currently it seems modwheel does'nt do anything in Synfire, I guest using a contextual modwheel to be able to zoom in/out will improve the workflow further to the existing shortcut, many DAW have such modwheel implementation so it will remains quite standard for the users switching between theirDAW and Synfire.
PS : I really like how Synfire is approached (concepts), with the help of Synfire I m know able to learn by myself a lot on relationship between harmony, melody bass and rythm, voicing ...
I spend a lot of time over the past 20years doing piano courses, music theory, reading notation, songwriting and DAW tutorials but nobody got very helpful in giving some clue for managing relationship between the musical elements, Synfire does it perfectly well by the modelisation of music (theory), propose a very open process and a tool to test different musical approach. Keep going on developing Synfire for musicians !
Regards
Charles

Mouse scroll wheel to move up and down. Wheel + Control to zoom in and out. Wheel + Shift to move left & right.
L-R arrow keys to move up and down. Control + L-R arrow keys to zoom in and out. Shift + L-R arrow keys to move left & right.
Another thing that would be nice is Timeline Markers that could be named. One key moves you forward, one key moves you back.
