Nesting a number of containers into a new container

Posted

If I want to pack a large number of containers into a new main container, what is the best way to do it?

For example, in the attached picture: I want to move all containers below the green container into the green container. This seems to work only by dragging container by container. That's obviously not optimal and also bears the risk of placing the containers at a wrong position at the timeline. I would like to select all containers and move them all at once. Can this be done somehow?

Drag and drop is not multi-selection capable, because there are a lot of edge cases to be considered. Imagine multiple containers selected at different levels of nesting. It'd be a pretty complex task with probably counter intuitive and confusing results at times.

You could group all desired containers and resize the new container to fit. Move any top-level phrases where necessary. Insert an empty container at the beginning to ensure the leading gap is preserved (delete it afterwards).

If you move containers one by one, be sure to maintain the (global) position on the time ruler. It's the only variable to keep track of. Everything else will fall into line automatically, including sequence and vertical ordering.

In principle, I understand the problem. In the above example, I would of course only mark all top-level containers (B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J). But anyway, this is not an operation you need every day. That' s something you can get over.
