Import MIDI Directly to Harmony?

Posted

Hi.

Is it possible to import MIDI  directly to (and only to) a Harmony parameter?

For example, ChordPrism 2

has an extensive and growing set of coherent MIDI chord sets, the individual chords of which can easily be played and exported in a desired order to a MIDI file.

It would be super-convenient to be able to drop such an Export directly onto a Harmony parameter in Synfire.

Of course we can use Palettes and Factories within Synfire directly.  It's not like we don't have choices!

There are, however, quite a few harmony-oriented "assistants" out there (Scaler also immediately comes to mind), each with their own collections, quirks, and strengths.  Being able to bring such directly into Synfire where desired would be a lovely interoperability to have.

As such programs basically all offer the "MIDI into DAW" workflow, if Synfire had its own "MIDI into Harmony" workflow that would be the ultimate in multi-program harmonic flexibility.

Yes. Import the chord sequence MIDI and only use the Harmony parameter. Enable "Complete Chords" and disable all other options (see picture). Most importantly, don't create Figures and don't keep the takes (unless you want to re-run the harmonizer on them for some reason).

That works here, thanks very much!

Can you imagine how wonderfully convenient it would be for users if this process (result) could happen automatically merely by dropping the MIDI onto any Harmony parameter?
