Wind controllers use the breath cc so this is supported by both synfire pro and express. You should be able to setup a controller in synfire and draw in the breath parameter.

HAIlion has for the 4 saxes( alto /sprano /baritone and tenor ) 8 default articulations under  8 pads in the GUI of HAlion 4

-straight

-vibrato

-growl

-Falls Sh (short

-Falls Ln (long)

-Doits

-vib mf/ Swell Vib p (soprano)

-vib p

Really, the quality of the Halion 4 seems to me (very)  good ( because there are all sampled too ) and Halion 4 has a advanced "flexphraser" to get he right sounding articulations  and roughly about 18 articulation for each sax.

That is not the case here .. i did this because i don't know if a windcontroller can do these 8 basic articulations
Better is than than question : can a windcontroller handle all these articulations?

A wind controller paired with the right synth allows all of the above but doesn't normally have any keyswitch articulations. It is designed to emulate a real breath based instrument and no real instrument has key switches for things like you are asking for. You have to play the instrument and create the effect. Eg blow harder to create the over blown harmonics, use your tongue to apply tonguing effects, etc.
If you can't play a wind instrument, don't bother with a wind controller as the fingering is completely different to a piano and will take a while to learn.

If you are looking for a controller that supports full cubase note expression and expressive play, have a look at the eigenharps. They simplify playing by letting you set the scale and key on the instrument. Also have very very sensitive keys that respond in 3 dimensions plus breath control.

The eigenharps can be set to output midi and these could be mapped to cc controls in synfire, but they really excell at liver performance.

Thanks @Blacksun !

Maybe the eigenharps ( not the  eigenvector ;) !) can be interesting .

 ( not the  eigenvector ;) !)

One can see that you have a degree in math

It is a tough , but interesting subject linear algebra..and my knowledge of this is modest.|
It is a german word used in mathematics..ofcourse there were a lot of great German Mathematicians in the past: Bernard Riemann, ( about his investigation about the structure of prime numbers : Riemann's Zeta function(complex numbers) and his definition of a "Riemann sum" ( calculus ) and the Riemann surfaces.
"Stalking the Riemann Hypothesis" and "Prime obsession" are books i studied for fun.

Math for teaching is not that hard, for instance ..fascinating how the old Greek deduce mathematical results: e.g there are a infinity number of prime numbers..the reasoning of this how Euclides did this..and there is more.

Well synfire uses as notion of that of a "vector"... its  too abstract for the mass who uses Synfire Express/Pro..because there is no clear practical defintion of a vector in Synfire ( for me it was confusing, because i was thinking on a set of data or grapical in the form of a line ( yes, it is in Synfire a parameter line or a set of data points  )
Correct me if i am wrong

Again the whole question arises of what are the boundaries of  SFP/SFE functions..  I'm still on the fence on that one, personally I'd like to be able to see edit a list of CC events and sysex data for each instrument..But that really goes beyond the boundaries of wha Andre wanted to create..

There are so many other issues he needs to address first. To put all the bells and whistles of a good DAW, would take considerable time and make the already high price prohibitive.

Best to smooth out/simplify the issues that SFP currently has rather than concentrate on adding more features.

Yes, yes, yes!

So many developers make the mistake of trying to rush to new features without sorting out all the little issues that torment their customers. They seem to think that if something works OK for 90%, than it must be OK.

I interpret Andre's recent request for suggestions as a way to make things already incorporated work better and  in a more user friendly manner.

That's what I support.

I am just starting out with Synfire Pro and the idea of containers is confusing to me as far as how I can begin to work with them. I feel a little like I did when I was young and had math anxiety! I am sure that I will get there! Reading everything that I can on the user forum. Great to be here!

Hi richard

The start is a root ( or master ) container at the top of the screen.
You can get this rootcontainer on different ways ( importing midi, recording,.. what else more)
-You cannot divide the rootcontainer.
- All not root containers you can divide and group

As a start..

Interesting Richard how you made this in Synfire.. you are probably more used with working with containers.

You did this  better than my : easy orchestral composition i think.
It sounds a little bit dark  ..for elves.

Can say not so much about the structure of your arrangement  ..do you have a idea of this ?

I just opened you  synfire file and noticed no dedicated harmony container(s) to get more control on the mood of your music.

my first sax playing :yeah: ,but there is no articulation yet possible in Synfire Express..so nothing to get a real liking modern arrangement :(

O  man.. please don't take this very serious ..haha..i am joking with this arrangement a little bit

I hope there will be coming in the near future for Synfire Express a  improved articulation system version to get the most out of the not classical  articulated sounds i can use in  HALion4
Well.. a articulation system for the 16 instruments ( by the way, what is too little for the professional musician focussed on classical music )
