Exporting with muted instruments in root container - puzzle solved

Posted

I started with an imported MIDI from Logic I created, a string sextet, plus flute and clarinet.  When I work in Logic I always create a 'chord track'.  This consists of forced legato chords all way thru song. I use this as a reference, also Tyros 4, needs a chord detect track to drive it's style generators..

While working in SFP, I 'red mute pause', the chord track, cause in the end I will not use it anyways. I also extract the progression and save that as a seperate MIDI file to put back in Logic, so Tyros 4 parts will be chromatically correct with any changes I may have made in SFP.

I also muted a cello part and the clarinet part, because I created new short containers which I interspersed along the song.  (so now the root container cello part was pretty much straight 1/4 notes all the way.  With it 'paused', I now had a cello part which played phrases, but also had measures of silence.

The SFP song had become to convoluded with all this extra container phrases. I saved and exported the song, and then imported back into a new arrangement.  I discovered that if you mute instruments in root container, that instrument will not be generated at all.  Since I wanted to have the cello and clarinet have  empty sections, I went to root container and 'cleared out' all notes for cello and clarinet. They still existed but were empty.

I realize normally if you add short new cello and clarinets containers, they play fine, but when there are spaces between the new containers SFP goes back and plays whatever is in that container, unless it paused..

This if fine, it just took me a minute to wonder why cello and clarinet were not being exported until I cleared and unpaused the root container cello and clarinet.

I'm not complaining, I just wanted to share the insight to other newbies, wondering why their exports are not what they expected.

Andre, you must have a really big brain to think all this stuff up and get it to work :)
