Losing sound from instruments

Posted

Hi, I'm working on my first serious project on SFE, and encountered a problem.
I made a base arrangement with 3 sounds, A melody, pads, and another sequence part.
When I added bass and drums, they were there at first, but all of a sudden the sound was gone.
The au's turn up green, they are loaded, but there's no sound.
When I press play I see the meters going, but no sound.
I checked for any volume automation, but there's non.
So I have 6 au instruments, fully loaded and green, and only 3 are playing sound.
Please help, I can't figure out where it went wrong.

Still haven't figured out why it won't play those au's, but when i load another plugin and assign it to the bass, it plays the sequence.
Could it be that some plugins don't behave as they should ?
The plugins that are not playing in my case are Fabfilter Twin2 & Fxpansion Geist.

Getting more and more frustrated now...
So, I got the bass running when I loaded a new plugin for it ( see post above).
Now when I add a new instrument, the bass stops sounding, and the new plugin is heard on it's own instrument channel with it's own sequence.
I thought there's a 16 instr. limit to SFE...I can only play 4...
It seems when adding a new instrument, the last one gets cut out.

As a workaround, I transferred the plugins to ableton by relocating them, and there it all plays well, except for the fabfilter twin2.
It gives a message in the drone that it has to many outputs.
Anyone else encountered this ?
Could it be twin2 that causes the audio problem ?
Well, I'll find out next project, because I don't want to mess with it again.
For now I continue working the 'drone' way.

Check if the plug-in plays sounds when you play it directly using its built-in keyboard.

The other day I found the Engine no longer played any sounds. Saving the project and restarting Engine and Synfire fixed this.

It gives a message in the drone that it has to many outputs.

Have you tried using VST instead of AU? Had the same issue with EWQL PLAY  AU and VST worked.

Are you using FX inserts with the Engine? This does not yet work correctly (also not yet documented). If you need insert FX, going the DAW route is best.

It doesn't play sound, but it played before.
After adding another instrument it stopped playing, see previous posts.

I think after I inserted twin2 things went wrong.
I will investigate more next project, already have enough time wasted on this.
I'm not using any effects inserts, I'm glad it works via the drone way, and working in SFE I only focus on the harmony/arrange side of things really speedup my work. I got into a habbit to insert fx too early, and waste time fiddling with them. SFE keeps me focused on the most important stuff.

It must have been something to do with either Geist or FF Twin2 that the audio cuts out. Currently running a project completely inside SFE with 8 instances of Alchemy with no problems at all.
