Trackfolder for easier organizing tracks in the arrangement view

Posted

Is it handy to have a group (tracks) folder in Synfire to keep help instrument families organized or whatever you want to have organized ?

I like that idea, but would it be difficult to implement within the container structure?  I'm not sure.

There are a number of things I would like to see that could improve workflow.  Off the top of my head I can think of:  Leaving the instrument in view when scrolling horizontally (for easier solo/mute, etc.); the ability to solo more than one track (so you don't have to mute everything else just to hear a couple of tracks together); the various windows to 'remember' where they were so that when you go back to them from another window, it doesn't go back to the beginning (or another random position).  I find this a particular problem in the Progression window which seems to jump all over the place after selecting a chord.

I would also like to see some improvement in the harmony detection for MIDI import.  It would be nice to be able to import a file, and save the harmony for use somewhere else.  But it seems to me it's never very accurate.  I either have to spend a long time in the harmonizer afterwards (which does seem to give more accurate results, not sure why the import can't use the same algorithm), and then I find myself spending a very long time going through almost note-by-note to get the right harmony.

I would like an option at MIDI import, to be able to let Synfire Pro look at every note at a position, and write the corresponding chord that fits all (taking into account look-ahead, quantization, etc.).  I realise that could mean a lot of chord changes but through layering, it would provide some very interesting results.  That is essentially what I've been doing manually lately and it's very time-consuming.

Hey Pete,

Im sure you can solo multiple tracks if you select them with the command key (on the mac), not near my synfire comp to test now but Im sure ive done that in the past.

Thanks blacksun, yes you can, I didn't realise that!  Fantastic news and thank you again!

Grouping of instruments is on our wishlist. Depends on how it will integrate with other features. I'm currently streamlining the user interface.
