My palette doesn't sound

Posted

Hi!

My palette doesn't sound, not in chords only mode or sketch or any example arpeggios.

The figures that i write in the arrangement sounds correctly.

Cheers

I just can listen the sound coming from my vst's also, no the internal GM synth. Maybe I messed something in the setup, I don't know...it's so weird to setup...

Unless you have set up a custom rack that you want to preserve, you might want to reset your global rack to factory defaults, including the five global instruments. Go to Playback >> Audio & MIDI Setup and do a File >> New. Then File >> Save.

Be sure an Audio Engine is running already before doing so, so Synfire will use the Soundcase plugin as a basis for global instruments (apparently the Microsoft Synth is not working on your PC).

Your global rack Soundcase looks ok.

The Soundcase in your arrangement is not complete. To simplify the use of Soundcase, you can save the Soundcase rack module on the global rack as a template (the paper icon button). In any arrangement, you can then recall that template from the same menu.

The menus are gray, because you picked one of the five global instruments, which can not be changed in the arrangment.

Ive been fighting this for years. Go to Playback >> Audio & MIDI Setup and do a File >> New. Then File >> Save. Worked. thanks

Thanks for the screenhots.

It looks like you used a plug-in rack module. For external MIDI instruments however, you would need a MIDI rack module.

To add a MIDI rack module, first select the MIDI selector on top of the rack, then double-click into the slack space of the rack.

Also note that Propellerheads Reason does not yet support Synfire's drones. That's why you'll need to go the MIDI route here.

Thanks for the pictures. Actually it looks ok. If you have chords on channel 2 and bass on channel 3 in Reason, progression playback should work.

For the basic audition of progressions, scales, chords, etc however, I'd really recommend using the Soundcase plugin in Synfire. Hooking up the global instruments to an external DAW via MIDI loopback seems unnecessarily complicated. You would rather do that for an arrangement that specifically composes for a Reason project.

Ok. So I have recorded a figure and added a progression. I don't hear anything on playback and I didn't hear anything when I was playing the notes. I see midi activity in the monitor though. I am at a loss here. I have had the app for about a month now and gotten nowhere. Please help. I have attached more pics. I'm sure there is something simply I am missing. Could my keyboard controller be affecting midi throughput? I am using a nektar panorama.

You have "External Global Instruments" on your rack three times. They are conflicting. Keep only the MIDI rack module that goes via IAC Driver 1 and delete all others. Be sure to check the 5 global instruments again after this.
