long release instruments

Hi,

Is it possible to indicate to synfire that a sound as release of x seconds or x bar length for it to take that information into account ? (This can help reducing harmonic blur.)

Not yet. I'm not sure how this could be used effectively, as note length is determined by Figure and Length parameters and therefore there is little autonomy for Synfre to choose its own lengths over those.

This may get interesting with the new generative features, though.

If you have some ideas, let me know.

I'm not sure you understood: I'm speaking of the amplitude envelope release of a synth (for example).Synth continue to produce the note for some time after releasing the key. Most synth have release time parameters in seconds or in bar. If we can define the release time in Synfire, It can use it to avoid producing notes that are 1 semi tone interval around the unstopable release part of the sound. You can consider release part as ghost fixed pitch notes.

I see, but Synfire has no say in where a new chord would start. That's a fixed rhythm given by the Harmony parameter. Synfire does split long notes to avoid unwanted dissonance, but if your sound release (decay) is too long, it will smear into the next chord no matter what.

If your sound release is longer than the average time of a chord change, you simply can't safely use it with that.

Thx for explanation. (If the internals of Synfire come to change, keep that in mind: it can be so cool for so much electronic music styles )

On this, is if possible to get Synfire to force all notes in a phrase to retrigger on a chord change?

With Auto-Chords, yes. Just disable "Tie Notes" in Interpretation.

Regular figures however will keep a note sustained, unless it violates constraints of the next harmonic context.
