Insert FX are currently implemented as nested rack modules. The UI is not very intuitive: You need to flip open a small mini rack module named "Insert" and use that tiny UI to select a device description, load a preset, etc.
The rationale behind this was that insert FX may need to be addressed like instruments, e.g. for patch selection, and might therefore require a device description. The UI overhead however is the reason why we have only a single insert FX slot.
I don't know about you, but I never needed a device description for any FX plug-in. I just load a plug-in and set it up as needed. The plan is to get rid of this UI overhead and provide three or four simple FX slots that are just placeholders for a plug-in (as is standard with all DAW).
What do you think? Any objections?
