gospel chords extended chords

Posted

Im looking for a programme to compose progression gospel / soul style, can this programme create just simple chord progressions using extended chords 9ths 13ths etc,

i would like to create my own progressions verse, chorus etc
just chords then edit them in midi,

im just wondering if this tool would be useful for me?
as the videos are in different styles and its hard to imagine
working within the style of music i prefer.

Yes, you can build up your own chord library although 9ths and 13ths will already exist in the default library.

No problem. In HN1 you can link verse/chorus sections quite easily. Looks like HN2 will have an even simpler method to do this. For me the fun really starts when I get Harmony Navigator's midi output into Cubase. The combination is quite a creative palette.

I think it would be. HN can be applied to all styles of music. You will have a learning curve creating your own "patterns" which is the music you hear playing as you click on the different chord tiles. That's where the trick is. You create a pattern which has a gospel or a soul sound and then build your song with different harmonic movement based on what you hear playing. I've found it a bit challenging to build new and different sounding patterns but I understand this will be simplified in HN2. You can select "chords only" but I find much more inspiration hearing a fuller accompaniment.

I really like the program, hope this helps.

sounds like it could work for me then,

are inversions and alternate voicings included ? i think that alot of the soul / gospel chords are made up of the chord being played split up in both hands so the sound is richer,

hn2 sounds like it maybe even better than the first version, when does it release and at what price ?

they really should put a demo up with different styles, like jazz, soul etc

You can invert the chord when you set it up in the chord library but I'm not sure if you can have inversions of the same chord on a palette at the same time. Can someone else comment?

Release date and pricing should be announced soon. I think you will be able to download a trial version to check out.
