Synfire and Third-Party Tools Workflow / REX/AIFF/WAV LOOPS

Here is a workflow I have been developing to address the vexing situation of having purchased a lot of loop libraries in various collections.  For example, I have the Native Instruments "GEORGE DUKE SOUL TREASURES" , which contains a library of various bluesy, soulful licks and loops (piano, electric piano, clavinet etc...).

However, I am also pretty sick and tired of the material.  So here is what I have been experimenting with:

1) Using Celemony Melodyne, convert the polyphonic material in the loops to MIDI files.

2) Build a MIDI file library based on re-catgorization (i.e. the loops done with the Native Instruments libraries are based on *instruments* used, and I have erased that distinction and rebuilding based on key and phrase description).

--->  here it would be nice to have Synfire "auto-categorize by key and similarity".

3) Import into Synfire (not just one loop but sometimes a loop and lick combo)

4) Generate a new phrase

5) Generate a new variation

In this case I now have the option to use the materials I spent good money on by re-using my investment in both Celemony and Native Instruments by applying Synfire Pro.

I have a number of my own old tracks that I no longer wish to sit and do the boring job of transcription - so guess what:  I use Melodyne, send to Synfire Pro and rebuild in Ableton (i.e. I try out different instrumentations in Ableton).

I am hoping to try out the instrumentations in Synfire as a lot of times, the sound itself impacs how I am going to build a variation :)
